Asking other parents about who their child’s dentist is may be the best way to start, although reviews on the internet can be helpful as well. Your child’s pediatrician may have some good suggestions, too.
Your First Appointment
Once you are at that first appointment, make note: do they know how to talk to kids? They should be gentle, pleasant, and patient. They should be able to explain to your child what the appointment entails without making it scary, and they should be able to stress the importance of good dental care without nagging them.
Do they know how to talk to the parents? The right pediatric dentist will be able to not only answer the child’s questions, but all of the parents’ questions as well. Do they address all of your concerns? Or do they just seem like they are in a big hurry, with no time to talk?
All of this, by the way, should apply to the entire staff, not only the dentist.
